I Finally Did It.
and I did it right.
Jonathan Christian Byrd and Crystal Ellen Honeycutt were married on July 4th, 2026, at the ruins of Dunscaith Castle, the “Fortress of Shadows,” where the legendary warrior maiden Scáthach trained the hero Cú Chulainn, on the Isle of Skye, Sleat Peninsula, Scotland.
Wearing our finest, we trudged through the boggy heath through constant rain and the wedding gifts of the local sheep, strewn like petals by some mischievous fairy flower girl. As we neared the wind-battered seaside fortress, the dripping bride advised our guide Raven Sinclaire that perhaps she should not pursue a career as a wedding planner, immediately after which she was nearly Mary Poppins’d by her umbrella.
My three-toned dress shoes were a single shade of wet leather as we stood on the green and recited our vows. We couldn’t help but smile and laugh and wonder how there could be any shadows on the bright green threshold of Scáthach on this special day, especially as there wasn’t any sun.
Our tour group snapped these lovely photos of a magical, surreal, and soggy wedding. It’s the only wedding I’ve ever had, and the gorgeous warrior who trudged through the bog to promise me her life is the only woman I ever want to marry.
