I’m not certain Lazarus had much of a future in the church you describe, or perhaps, Jesus, pronounced in 3-5 syllables, either.

Absolutely on point, Jonathan

Finally managed to find my way back to this piece. Love love love it. The whole mood is excellent. And the bit about digging more holes in the graveyard, perfectly placed.

Thank you, Kat. I don’t think I’ve ever shared prose fiction, even though I’ve written a substantial amount of it. Maybe I’ll share more in the future!

Great story. Fun to hear where people come from. I’m 79, and I’ve been writing up the stories behind my songs so my kids get a fuller picture. It’s interesting for me as well to think back to those times. I’ve lived a full life, and through the songs, I can kind of offer what I’ve taken from those experiences, but the living of it was the thing.

This is like a William Burroughs cut up of my life with things taken from different decades and pasted onto some guy I met once at a tire shop.

Which is kind of what a song can be.

I love your mind.

Fascinating piece, as usual. FYI, the autoslop reader pronounced the final word as the adjective "L-aye-v" instead of the verb imperative "L-ih-v". Thought it was an announcement for a local concert!

Hahaha I should have read it myself!

Hey, I really enjoyed reading this piece! You took me there, from my desk, accounting software and all.

Thank you, Eric.
